Taylor Albert Rydahl
July 22, 1994 -
March 14, 2017

Taylor Albert Rydahl, age 22, passed away on March 14, 2017 at Carilion-Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.
He was born on July 22, 1994 in Chicago, IL to Keith Albert Rydahl and Margie Hoff.
Taylor was a brilliant, kind, and soft-spoken child, who loved writing stories, reading, and playing Pokémon. His genuine belly laugh could light up any room. He excelled at school, showing particular genius in mathematics and computers. High School is where he truly came into himself, going from a sweet shy boy, to a blue-haired charismatic Prom King who was voted Most Friendly. It was there he found a new passion in rugby, where he played with the Kenosha Vultures. He graduated from Lakeview Technology Academy, engulfed in praises from his teachers and with lifelong friendships intact. From there it was only up for Taylor.
He would go on to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he would continue his love for rugby with the Oshkosh Mighty Pigs. They affectionately called him “Taylor-Made” or “T-made” because he was excellent at everything. In his last years of college, he moved in with the rugby guys and created a home filled with friendships that will never fade. After graduating Oshkosh, his degree in Computer Science and Mathematics in hand, he continued to Virginia Tech for his PhD in Computer Science on a full scholarship. There he shared his brilliance, kindness, and compassion with them in the last months of his life.
Taylor lives on through his loving parents, Keith and Margie; his little sister, Stephanie, step-parents, Craig Hoff and Carol Ann Rydahl along with his two grandmothers and uncountable number of aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be remembered by his beloved girlfriend, Alicia Clark; friends, rugby buddies, family dogs and every single person whose life was richer because of him.

Linda CurtisDearest Carol Ann, Keith and Stephanie, When I heard the news of your shocking loss my heart flew to you. I remember meeting Taylor when you all travelled to San Francisco and we had lunch on the Bay. At the time Taylor struck me as a gentle giant, and by 'giant' I mean that he had a big heart and a keen intellect. He was patient and self-aware. I am thinking of you every day and sending love. Now is the time for tears. So many tears.

Andrea BoudreauTaylor was in my son Mark's class at Stocker Elementary and then at Roosevelt Elementary. I often helped out in the classroom and remember Taylor always had a happy grin on his face. CindyI never had the pleasure of meeting Taylor on campus, but his picture shows what a wonderful person he was and makes me wish he'd been a student in this department (Psyc). Heartfelt condolences on your loss, but congratulations on all the wonderful memories you have to cherish. He was very obviously a very cool guy.

Karen BaierTaylor lived with and played rugby with my son, Zach, at UWO. I had the pleasure of watching them play and talking with Taylor at the games. I was struck by his kindness. When I made dinner for the guys in the "rugby house" Taylor was the one who would get a thank-you card and have all the guys sign it. My heart and my prayers go out to Taylor's parents, family and friends at this difficult time. May you find peace and comfort knowing Taylor made a positive impact on everyone he met. God bless.

Carrie VanderVeenYour family has our deepest condolences. Taylor was a bright light gone far too soon. Although, I only met Taylor a handful of times, I feel like I knew him well from our conversations around the lunch table and across the cubicle walkway. I love how he could be heard practicing the trombone while Keith was on conference calls. (many years ago!) Only Taylor could make Keith as big of a Rugby fan as a Cubs fan – well, almost! I can just imagine the spirited conversations you must have had while watching the Jeopardy episodes you recorded. And, it was clear how proud you were of Taylor for his academic accomplishments and also for the kind-hearted man he was becoming. May your memories and the love & support of all those caring for you be a comfort in this difficult time.
