US Veteran
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Lee Schuirmann, who left us on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on May 12, 1941, to the late Jacob and Cleora Schuirmann (Hillman). Ed was one of 10 children and was preceded in death by several of his siblings.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Edward served his country with honor and dedication. After his time in the military, he found his professional home at Abbott Laboratories, where he was a valued member of the pharmaceuticals industry. His work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him both respect and admiration from colleagues.
On April 4, 2000, Edward married his wife, Karen Schultz. Together, they built a warm home filled with love, laughter, and companionship.
A man of many interests, Edward found joy in gardening, camping at Riverbend Resort, and golfing. A passionate Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers fan, Ed never missed a chance to talk sports with anyone and everyone. Traveling brought him great joy, allowing him to engage with the world's beauty and immerse himself in new experiences, often shared with those he held dear. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ed had a kind spirit and a gift for lifting the mood at any gathering with his wit and charm. Whether he was sharing stories of his adventures, offering a helping hand to those in need, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with loved ones, Ed was a shining light in the lives of many. He had a special way of making everyone feel valued and appreciated, and his legacy of compassion will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Schuirmann; his daughter, Lisa Kuhn; his step children, Jackie Schultz, Robin Schultz, and Donnie Smith; his grandchildren, Michelle Kirk, Alexis (Austin) Mottl, Nicholas Kirk, Samuel Smith, Arianna Kuhn, Jacob Smith, Matthew Smith, Averie Schultz, Aubriella Kuhn, Riley Kuhn; his great granddaughter, Azalea Mottl; his sister, Barbara Stayton; and his favorite sister-in-law, Carole "Sam" Schuirmann.
Services for Ed will be held privately.

January 29, 2026We were lucky to meet Ed and Karen at Riverbend. He was a gentle soul. I would stop by once in a while to talk baseball and his favorite team, the Tigers. We would like to thank Ed for his service! May he rest in peace.

January 29, 2026We met Ed and Karen through our son who bought a lot from them at Riverbend. We ended up buying a spot at Riverbend ourselves and became good friends with them. They helped us tremendously with things we didn’t know about RV living. We’re sorry to hear that Ed has died and we wish the best for Karen.
