US Veteran
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darrell J. Schimek, who departed this world peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on October 9, 1938, to the late John Alfred and Madeline Rose (nee: Willette) Schimek.
From 1955 until 1957, he proudly served his country in U.S. Army.
Darrell lived a spiritual life in which his faith played a very important role. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he enjoyed serving as an usher. In addition, Darrell was a member of the Knights of Columbus and previously the Treasurer of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
He began his career with American Motors in 1958 and retired in 1988. He had a lifelong passion for cars and mechanics and enjoyed farming and remodeling projects around the house. A natural handyman, he was always willing to help build or fix things. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and family. He also enjoyed playing cards—especially solitaire—taking family vacations, camping trips, and visiting with others. Known for his friendly personality, he truly had the “gift of gab” and a great sense of humor.
Darrell's warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel special. His family always knew how much they were loved and how proud he was of them. Always giving compliments and sharing a warm hug. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he held dear.
Survived by loving devoted wife of 65 years, Irene Schimek; blessed with his children, Shirley (Chris) Lang, Lois (John) Seiber, Carolyn (Todd) Taylor, Darrell Schimek Jr.; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Weber, Charlotte Mair, and Joan Bohrn; and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Schimek.
Reunited with his family members, parents, John and Madeline Schimek; his son, John M. Schimek; his brothers and sisters, Francis “Bud” (Elizabeth "Betty"), Claude (Clara "Dolly"), Jeraldyne "Jerre", Victor “Bob” (Marcella), Richard “Dick” (Arlene “Goody”), Patricia "Pat" (William "Bill"), Lowell "Tubby" (Clementine), Charles (Catherine, Donna) and James Edward.
