Vera Holder
April 15, 1946 -
September 2, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Vera Holder, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Born on April 15, 1946, to Roy and Cindy Wilkins. Vera was a vibrant spirit whose warmth, generosity, and kindness touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She dedicated her career to caring for others, working in hospitals in Highland Park, IL, supporting individuals with disabilities at the Ann Kiley Center, and serving for many years as an LPN at the Annexter Center in Zion, IL.
Vera was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Zion, IL, where her deep love for God was evident. Her favorite gospel song was “Precious Lord,” and she found great joy singing in the choir during her time in Tennessee.
Before starting a family, Vera loved to travel and had a passion for cooking. Her specialties included greens, sweet potatoes, dressing, and banana pudding. She cherished moments spent with her children and grandchildren, as well as time with her beloved siblings. She also played a special role in her community by babysitting many children in Zion.
Education was one of the most important values in her life—she firmly believed it was something no one could ever take away. In her free time, she enjoyed watching television, especially shows like Murder, She Wrote, Law & Order: SVU, In the Heat of the Night, Columbo, and classic Westerns. Vera was surrounded by many dear friends who loved her deeply.
She is survived by her children, Curtis Holder, Jr., Matthew Kinzer, Jason Spears, Jamie Spears, Laquettia Denton, George Denton; 13 grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vera is preceded in death by 1o brothers and sisters.
Her unwavering love for her family, her compassionate nature, and her infectious smile will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. Vera's legacy lives on in the countless hearts she influenced and the joyful memories she leaves behind.
The journey has not ended
The time with me is not lost
Though seasons may change
My love for you remains the same
When you feel alone and lonely
Look up and there you'll see
When time stands still and all's forgotten
Look up and there you'll see
When love is lost and memories subside
Look up and there you'll see
When the journey feels long
As it sometimes will
Look up and there you'll see
Let sorrow not sit and fester
For here I shall not stay
Don't feel sad for me
For this journey has not ended
It's my love for you that I've ascended
I'll be here to guide you through
The times we had together
The moments that we shared
Provide that guiding eye
Leading you through the night
For an angel received her wings and with gracious wings I take flight
Soaring high above the stars
Shining my light for you to see
Whispering strength and peace love to the ones I left behind.
I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul...
