US Veteran
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alex Matusevicius, a beloved husband, favorite uncle, and dear friend, who passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the age of 83.
Alex was born on February 3, 1943, on his family's farm in Lithuania, to Aleksas and Leokadia (Jakutis) Matusevicius. He was raised by his grandparents, Frank and Anna Jakutis. During his early childhood, his family was forced to flee their homeland due to the hardships of war, seeking refuge in Germany before eventually making their way to the United States. At the age of six, Alex arrived in the United States, through New York, and later became a United States citizen at the age of 18, where he began a new chapter in the country, he would proudly call home. He was a graduate of Bradford High School in 1961 and later attended UW Parkside.
Throughout his life, Alex treasured the love of his family, the friendships he formed, and the simple joys that made life meaningful. He will be fondly remembered for the special place he held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
On November 20, 1971, Alex was united in marriage to Sharon Keller. Together, they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.
Alex proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966.
Alex was an Electronic Technician; he worked in various industries as a production manager in the Milwaukee area.
Alex had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, archaeology, and the wonders of ancient history. He spent two summers in Utah working at an archaeological dig site, an experience that reflected his curiosity and passion for discovering the past. He also enjoyed nature, photography, and reading books about ancient history. Closer to home, Alex loved walking his dogs at Petrifying Springs Park, where he could enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the outdoors. Following retirement Alex and Sharon spent their summers at the family cabin on Seagull Lake on the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota.
Alex was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 552 in Somers, Navy Club Ship 40, and the 40 & 8 Branch of the American Legion. These organizations held a special place in his life, where he valued the friendships, fellowship, and camaraderie he shared with his fellow members.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Matusevicius; brother-in-law, Lee Dubs, sisters-in-law, Julia (Mark) Ferris, Laura (Tom) Devine and Martha (Alan Jones) Fergus and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aleksas and Leokadia Matusevicius; grandparents, Frank and Anna Jakutis; his parents-in-law, Arthur and Beverly Keller; brothers-in-law, Bill Heffernan, Bill Fergus and Mark Ferris; and sister-in-law, Carol Dubs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Gunflint Trail Historical Society https://gunflinthistory.org/ Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department https://gunflint911.org/ Milwaukee Fight for Air Climb 2027 (select participant Sharon Matusevicius) or Carthage College Women’s Basketball https://www.carthage.edu/giving/ would be appreciated.
