noviembre 4, 2025It’s hard to put into words what Chuck meant to me — and to so many of us. When my home life wasn’t so great, he opened his home and his heart and made me feel like part of his family. And I know I wasn’t the only one he did that for.
Through his kindness and patience, he taught us so much — from life on a pumpkin farm, bending wrenches and making repairs, fixing our own equipment, carpentry, and construction, to lessons about hard work, friendship, and doing what’s right.
I first met Chuck through his son, Tony, back in junior high. What started as two kids helping out on the farm turned into a lifelong friendship. Tony was my best friend through school and later in life. Though we’ve grown apart over the years, I know we could sit down over a cup of coffee and talk like we never missed a beat. That’s the kind of connection Chuck helped build — strong, steady, and full of respect — and that’s because of the kind of man Chuck was, and the kind of family he raised.
Chuck was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need — whether it was fixing something mechanical (and if Chuck couldn’t fix it, well, it was junk!) or offering a bit of tough love when we needed it most. He never hesitated to tell us when we were being dumbasses — and he was usually right. Okay… he was always right! But he always did it out of care, because he wanted us — his kids, his friends, everyone around him — to be better people.
Although I may have lost touch over the last several years as I focused on my own career and family, Chuck’s friendship, guidance, and lessons will always stay with me. The values he instilled continue to shape who I am every day — and I know many of us can say the same.
My heart goes out to Tony, Cindy, Auntie Hellen, and all of their families as they navigate this loss. Chuck was one of a kind — a teacher, a friend, and a man who made a difference. His impact will live on in all of us, forever.

octubre 30, 2025I was fortunate to have worked with Chuck at the Waukegan Park District. He was a very dedicated and loyal employee. Always willing to help. A great teammate. He formed great personal relationships with his colleagues. He and his parents always welcomed us to their farm. Most memorable was Halloween and wagon rides. I will miss him, and remember our time together.
