Meet Ron and Laura

Ron Nelson

Intermediario autorizado / Especialista en planificación avanzada

Ron has sat with Kenosha families at kitchen tables for more than 20 years. He grew up here, and he has probably served someone you know. He will not rush you, and he will tell you plainly what things cost. Ask him anything — there is no question he has not heard before.

Laura Freeburn

Intermediario autorizado / Especialista en planificación avanzada

Laura came to this work because of what her own family went through, and she remembers it every time she meets someone new. She is patient with detail and good at the questions people are afraid to ask. She works alongside Ron, so whoever you meet with, you get the same plan and the same care.

What Happens When We Meet

1

We talk first

About an hour, here or at your home. You tell us about your family and what matters to you. Nothing is decided.

2

We go through your options

Burial, cremation, the kind of service you want, in plain language. You will see what each one costs today, in writing.

3

We write down your wishes

We keep your file here and give you a copy for your family. Call us any time you want to change something.

4

You decide about funding

You can fund your plan right away, or take time to think.

Why People Plan Ahead

Your family will know what you wanted

Most of the choices are made in the first two days. If yours are written down, no one has to guess, and no one has to argue about it.

Fewer decisions in the hardest week

A family arranging a funeral makes dozens of decisions in a day or two. You can make those now, calmly, with time to think about each one.

You will know what things cost

Every price is on the table in writing before you decide anything. You can take the paperwork home and think about it for as long as you like.

You can change your mind

Your plan and funding are portable, and you can make changes as your circumstances change.

Talleres para la tranquilidad mental

Four times a year we set aside an hour at the Carriage House to walk a group through how preplanning works. Come with questions. Nothing is sold, but you will leave with valuable information that will help you plan.

Morning sessions tend to draw retirees; evening sessions are easier for people still working, and for adult children bringing a parent. Either one covers the same ground.

Held at the Carriage House, 3903 Washington Rd, Kenosha. Parking on site. Questions: (262) 658-4101.

Other special features of our planning service

The On the Go plan

A one-time $525 life membership. If you die more than about 75 miles from home — on vacation, visiting family, wintering south — it covers the cost of bringing you back to Kenosha.

Start on your own, without an appointment

Some people would rather look through the options quietly first. Our online guide lets you do that on your own, and you can stop and come back whenever you want. Start the online arrangement guide.

Our own gathering space on Washington Road, for a luncheon after the service or an evening of people telling stories. No hall to rent, no second address for your family to find.

Why People Plan Ahead

We are happy to make adjustments to your plan. Contact Ron or Laura to explain what you would like to change, and they will accommodate you.

No problem! Our funding is easily transferrable to a funeral home elsewhere.

In accordance with Wisconsin law, your prepayment does not go directly to a funeral home. It is held by the Funeral Directors Life company, which specializes in protecting these funds until they are needed, and can pay them out to any funeral home of your choice.

After consulting with us, you decide whether to fund your plan, and which payment option to choose. There is no initial consultation fee.

As long as you need — if you’re in a hurry, we’ll do our best to stay within your time limits, but we can schedule plenty of time to discuss all your questions. Many appointments last two or three hours. We have coffee!

It’s a life‑insurance funded plan created solely to cover your funeral choices. It protects your family from high costs and hard decisions, and pays out quickly and easily so your plans are implemented with no hassle. When we create your policy, you can pay the whole cost up front, or you can opt for installments with insurance coverage.

We encourage people to involve family members in their decision-making. Any relative or friend who advises you on important decisions would be welcome to join your meeting with us.

Families who planned ahead with us

“My mother had already been in and done all of this with Ron. When she died there was nothing to argue about with my brothers. That is a gift I did not know she had given us.”

Diane · March 2026

“We went in thinking we would be sold something. We sat with Laura for an hour, wrote down what we wanted, and paid nothing. She called two weeks later just to see if we had more questions.”

Tom and Barb · January 2026

“Dad wanted everything specific, down to the music. Ron wrote all of it down and it happened exactly that way. My father would have been pleased with himself.”

Michael · May 2026

Take an hour now, and give your family one less thing to carry.
