How Laura Freeburn Helps Families Find Clarity, Comfort, and Peace of Mind.

At Piasecki Funeral Home, care extends far beyond the services families see on the day of a funeral. Behind the scenes, dedicated professionals work thoughtfully and steadily to make sure every detail is handled with respect. One of those professionals is Laura Freeburn, who serves Piasecki families as a Licensed Intermediary / Advanced Planning Specialist.

Laura’s days often begin in the Piasecki Carriage House, where she works alongside Ron Nelson helping individuals and families plan ahead. As a Licensed Intermediary / Advanced Planning Specialist, she meets with people who want to make advanced decisions about their final arrangements and explore ways to fund those plans. Laura believes when families plan ahead, it significantly eases the burden on their loved ones, and she has seen firsthand how grateful adult children are when those decisions have already been made.

In her first role as a Funeral Director Assistant, Laura gained an in-depth understanding of every aspect of a funeral, from greeting guests and providing information to driving vehicles and assisting the funeral director. By seeing firsthand how services are planned and executed, she developed a comprehensive perspective that allows her to guide families more effectively when preparing and planning their own wishes, ensuring each detail is handled with care and respect.

Her Path to Funeral Service

Laura’s path to funeral service was not a traditional one. For more than twenty years, she worked as a translator and language teacher, combining her love of languages with a career that took her around the world. She translated materials for art museums in Austria, worked on books ranging from historical tragedies to adventure stories, and taught English, German, French, and Spanish.

After years in that field, Laura found herself ready for a change. Funeral service stood out to her because of the meaningful role funeral homes play during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Having experienced personal family loss, Laura understands the relief that comes when the funeral home arrives to provide care and guidance. Growing up in a large extended family, funerals were a regular part of her life, and she came to appreciate both the ceremony and the gathering, as well as how stories shared afterward often revealed who a person truly was.

When Laura saw an opening posted through the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, she reached out to Piasecki Funeral Home. That email led to an opportunity she is deeply thankful for today.

Laura has also been surprised by some of what the job has taught her, from learning to drive funeral vehicles and accompanying processions to studying for the Wisconsin Life Insurance exam required for preneed work. Just as meaningful, though, are the lessons that come from working closely with families.

Fuera del trabajo

Outside of work, Laura’s life is busy. She and her husband have three daughters, two in college and one in high school. When the family is together, they enjoy hiking, camping, dining out, and watching movies or television. Their home life also includes several gardens, a hamster, a leopard gecko, and a jumping spider.

Creative outlets play an important role in keeping Laura grounded. She enjoys knitting and crocheting, singing in choirs, and playing the recorder alongside her husband, who plays the harp. Music has been a lifelong passion, inspired by her mother, who is still singing in a church choir at age 87.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, Laura is especially excited to cohost the Peace of Mind Workshops alongside Ron Nelson. These sessions are designed to give clear, practical information about advance planning in a comfortable, supportive setting.

The 2026 workshops will be held:

  • February 25 at 10:00 AM
  • June 24 at 6:00 PM
  • August 26 at 10:00 AM
  • October 28 at 6:00 PM

With her deep understanding of how funerals are planned and carried out, Laura is uniquely positioned to help families think through their wishes and find peace of mind. She treasures the opportunity to guide families through both planning and services, knowing that even small details can make a meaningful difference. Looking ahead, Laura is especially excited to share her expertise through the 2026 Peace of Mind Workshops, helping families feel prepared, supported, and confident in the decisions they make for their loved ones.
