Edward William Maurer, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Library Terrace at the age of 100.

Born on January 30, 1926, to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (née: Meyer) Maurer. Edward lived a century defined by faith, hard work, devotion to family, and genuine kindness. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering optimism left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Edward proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. His military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life. He and his beloved wife, Rhea, enjoyed attending reunions of the crew of the U.S.S. Wadsworth held throughout the country. These gatherings allowed lifelong friendships to flourish, as they would simply "pick up the conversation where it left off" at the previous reunion.

On November 29, 1949, Edward married the love of his life, Rhea Schultz, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Edward dedicated 30 years of his career to Eaton Dynamatic, where he worked as a skilled tool and die maker before retiring as Supervisor of the Research and Development Department. Even after putting in a full day at Dynamatic, he would come home to share dinner with his family before heading out to work a second job at Ace Hardware, demonstrating his tireless work ethic and commitment to providing for those he loved.

Although he worked hard, Edward also knew the importance of enjoying life and spending time with others. He was an avid golfer, participating on the Eaton Dynamatic golf team and in the Kenosha Municipal Golf League. He also enjoyed bowling on the Dynamatic team and in a couples league with Rhea.

Edward found great joy outdoors. During the 20 years he and Rhea spent in Arizona, he enjoyed hiking with friends and embraced the beauty of the desert landscape. At the age of 60, he challenged himself by taking up running and continued until he was 70.

Walking became one of Edward's greatest passions. Until the age of 95, he faithfully walked at least three miles each day, often reminding others, "Just dress for the weather." He also looked forward to breakfast gatherings with fellow Eaton Dynamatic retirees and treasured the camaraderie of the American Heroes Café at Festival Foods, where he enjoyed coffee and donuts with his friends.

Edward was also a gifted woodworker and craftsman. One of his family's most treasured traditions began during his years in Arizona, where he lovingly handcrafted a unique Christmas ornament for each grandchild every year. These ornaments became cherished keepsakes and lasting reminders of his love.

Above all else, Edward treasured time spent with family and friends. Whether sharing breakfast, taking a walk, attending reunions, or celebrating holidays, he believed life's greatest blessings were found in simply being together.

Edward is lovingly survived by his children, Carol (Gene) Iaquinta, Steve Maurer, Ann (Robert) Brothen, Amy (Doug) Greiner, and Chris (Pam) Maurer; his son-in-law, Tim Sieger; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; as well as additional cherished family members and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rhea; his parents and brothers; his daughter, Susan Sieger; and his son, James Maurer.

Edward's family invites all who knew and loved him to celebrate a life that was truly well lived. His legacy of kindness, humility, service, and unwavering love for family will continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.

Interment with full military honors will be held privately in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
