agosto 16, 2021

Alice Marie Waller, age 92, went to her heavenly home on August 16, 2021; peacefully listening to the melody of bird song in the company of her family and her comforting caregiver, Toni.
Born on July 28, 1929 in Dickey, North Dakota, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Van and Effie Mae (Roscoe) Black. At the age of four, Alice and her family moved to Rosedale, Indiana. Alice grew up in Rosedale with her siblings, Rudy, Bob, Don, Leatha and Nola. Alice graduated from Rosedale High School. She attended Indiana State Teachers College where she studied English, and in her spare time took flying lessons learning to fly a Piper Cub. She always told us her favorite part of learning to fly was doing loop 'de loops.
On September 25, 1951 Alice married Charles E. Waller in Rosedale, Indiana. They shared many wonderful years together until Charles’ passing in 2002. They raised 9 children together.
Alice is survived by her children, Charles, “Rick” (Debra) Waller, Rachel Waller (Rory Cunningham), Patricia (Tom) Lee, Michael Underhill (Maria Lundstrum), Rebecca Stevens, Robert (Lori) Underhill, Sarah (Greg), Laura (Bill) Whitney. She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel; her sister, Rudy and her brother, Bob.
Alice was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a light in her life and she smiled, laughed, and was filled with joy in their presence.
Alice loved life, she always saw the best in others! She had a great sense of humor. She was a voracious reader and was a lifelong learner. She was a faithful student of The Bible and studied it with her heart, mind and spirit. It gave her great joy to sing and play the organ while her children sang along. She is now singing with the angels.

Marybeth ZuhlkeMrs. Waller was a wonderful woman. I met her when her daughter now Rebecca Stevens and her foster son Bob Underhill were my students at Bose Elementary. She was so supportive of teachers and education. She raised a terrific family who follow in her footsteps of being kind and giving back to the community. She will be dearly missed but will live on in our memories and in her good deeds. Sending my love, peace, and sympathy to the Waller family and all who knew her.

Kathleen Mullane-JoyalFortunately, I have had moments of hearing Alice sing, mostly during my teen years. Hanging out in that Waller home one could hear a spontaneous croon when you’d least expect it. It was obvious that the gift of a beautiful voice was passed down. I would stand in awe, even as a pimply, chubby 17 year old wondering if I’d ever be able to sing like that. It turns out NO, Never will it happen. My hope is that I was influenced by all the unique women that entered my life as a child and kept in my heart the good and strong parts that I witnessed. If Alice bestowed on me just a small amount of the goodness she professed, then for that I am blessed. For what I saw in a steadfast manner was kindness, patience, humility, acceptance and faith. Not just in words, but more importantly (and more influentially) in actions. For the Waller family: May I hear in my heart the voice of my loved one lifted with my voice, to praise life, to hope for life, to join others on this circling globe in an “Alleluia”’ for the experiences we have shared and share even now, and for the ways beyond time and death in which we are bound to one another in gratitude and love. ~~~ Martha Whitmore Hickman
