junio 29, 2017

Veterano de EE.UU.
Abraham “Abe” Baas joined his beloved wife Zora in heaven on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
Born in Kenosha on October 11, 1918, Abe was the son of the late Adrian and Jacoba (Walraven) Baas.
Abe Served in the US Army from July 3, 1942 through November 22, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant with the 377th Infantry. His decorations included Three Bronze Campaign Stars, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Combat Infantry Badge.
On September 14, 1943 in Kenosha, Abe was united in marriage to Zora Lukach. Sadly, she preceded him in death on July 25, 1993.
He was a member of Trinity Evang. Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1865, and the Service Employees Union Local #168.
His first job was as a milk deliveryman with Sunshine Dairy in the days when most dairies were still delivering with horse and buggy. He also worked part time at the Quality Meat Market on 52nd St. Following his career with Kenosha Unified Schools, he retired in 1981. Following his retirement he remained active volunteering with RSVP, spending countless hours with his friends at the Kenosha Senior Center and enjoyed square dancing with the Allemande Square Dance Club.
As an adult, Abe struggled with a number of eye diseases including a Detached Retina, Cataracts, and Macular Degeneration which made him “legally blind”. That didn’t dampen his spirit however, as he became active with the BOLD organization and along with his wife danced with the BOLD square dancers.
Abe is survived by his son and daughter in law, Richard A. and Kathryn Baas; his two grandchildren, Kara Baas (Jim Morse) and Dr. Eric (Samantha Gatewood) Baas, and his good friend, Esther Wagner.
Along with his parents and wife, Abe was preceded in death by his six brothers, John, Cornelis, Clarence, Leonard, Edward, and Donald Baas, and his sister, Katherine Ehlers.
Special thanks to the staff at Meadowmere and Hospice Alliance for the loving care of Abe.

Nancy (Andersen) MuellerMy sincerest condolences to all of Abe's family and friends. Abe was the same age as my dad, John Andersen. John and Mary Jane valued his friendship their whole lives, and when my Uncle Lennie passed, I could always find him in Abe. That wonderful sense of humor and gorgeous smile - you could not help but smile when he smiled, or laugh when he laughed. A special hug for Esther, who brought him joy and kept him in line. As we remember him, we will keep the smile.
