Mary L. Hazen (nee: Bernhardt), age 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Brookside Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 26, 1944, to the late Christian and Odile (Everard) Bernhardt. Mary was a graduate of Bradford High School.
On July 31, 1965, she was united in marriage to Wiley “Jeff” Hazen. They were blessed with over 55 years together.
Throughout her career, Mary was employed with LeBlanc, Sheridan Nursing Home, Jockey International and Cherry Electric until her retirement.
Mary enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting, gardening, cooking, fishing, and archery. For many years she and her husband were active members of the Kenosha Bowmen, where they made many lasting friendships. She loved dancing with her husband, and together they were a graceful waltzing pair. They also loved spending time fishing and, in retirement, traveling together. At home, she tended a large vegetable garden and took pride in canning tomatoes, pickles, and salsa. She created afghans for family members and never shied away from a new crochet or knitting challenge. She also knitted hats and mittens for her granddaughter’s entire class so every child would have something warm in the winter. In her kitchen, she delighted in preparing foods she knew others loved—Christmas will never be the same without her hot beef. Her greatest happiness came from giving of herself, and she expressed her love through the many things she made with her hands and her heart.
She is survived by her children, Dawn (Gregory) Eckert, Cindy (Richard) Wick, and Lori (Robert Brice) Hazen; her grandchildren, Kelly Leisner, Richard (Jayne) Gabriel, Joshua (Ariel) Eckert, Rachel (Melvin) Merkel, Cecelia Brice and Dustin Fairbanks; her great-grandchildren, Damien, Jackson, Aria, Eleanor, Mathew, Jameson, Alvin and Joyce; her brother, David Bernhardt.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Carol McCarver.
Memorial services honoring Mary’s life will be held privately. Inurnment will be held in Sunset Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha, WI.

octubre 15, 2025I married into the family in 1979, when I married Jeff and Mary's nephew. Although we divorced a few years later, Mary and Jeff always looked at me as family. Never referred to me as Glenn's ex wife or Jimmy's Mom. Jeff teased me any time he could. Mary once took me aside and told me the more he teases you, the more you know he likes you. Mary had quite a job keeping Jeff in line throut the years, but somehow she managed to do so. I have lots of memories of family events, weddings and time in Daytona with both Mary and Jeff. Anyone that truly knows this family, knows their love for playing cards. I am sure that there is one hell of a poker game going on in Heaven. Jeff probably met her at Heavens gates saying..."come on Mary, we've all been waiting for you" with a deck in his hands. Dawn, Cindy and Lori, thank you for sharing your parents with my family.
