Marinus C. “Mar” Van Boven, 97, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at United Hospital Systems – St. Catherine’s Hospital Campus.

Mar was born on September 22, 1919, to the late John and Cornelia (Kloet) Van Boven.  He attended local schools; graduating from Kenosha High School and Trenary’s College of Commerce. After returning from the Army, Mar attended Northwestern University’s Chicago Campus Evening School. He earned a fellowship in the National Institute of Credit Management.

Entering the service on December 19, 1941, Mar served three years in the Army Medical Training Center, Abilene, Texas and one year with the 72^nd Field Hospital in India. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Theater Ribbon and a Good Conduct Meal.

On December 28, 1942 he married Hope G. Nelson. She passed away on October 19, 1957. On November 28, 1959, he married Lillie M. Sevey. She died on December 2, 2003.

Mar worked at Jockey International for 42 years; retiring January 1, 1982 as a Corporate Credit Manager. He served on the Board of Directors for the Chicago-Midwest Credit Management Association.

Active in the community, he was a member of the Kenosha (Downtown) Kiwanis Club for 47 years, serving as a secretary, board of directors, vice president and president. Mar also served as a Lt. Governor for District One for Kiwanis International.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church serving as a treasurer, church council member, usher and on several other committees.  Recently he resided at Brookdale Assisted Living in Pleasant Prairie.

In his spare time, Mar enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, traveling and working in his yard.

Mar is survived by his children, Margaret Van Boven and Thomas Van Boven, a step-son, Carl (Marilyn) Sevey and a step-daughter, Jean Sevey, all of Kenosha along with 4 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wives, Mar was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a daughter, Joanne and a sister, Cornelia.

Funeral Services honoring Mar’s life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12 Noon at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8760-37th Ave with full military honors following the service. Private interment will be held in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
