Captain Terrence “Terry” Charles Constant, USA, Retired, 74, of Kenosha, Wis., fought his most valiant battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Oct.1, 2017.

Terry was born on Nov. 24, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Lloyd and Irene (Musha) Constant. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he met his future wife Therese Anne Sturycz. They married at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Kenosha on Aug. 27, 1966.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the 25th Military Police Company with the 25th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. He later served in the Wisconsin National Guard 57th Field Artillery, retiring in 2004 after 35 years of military service. Terry was very proud to have served his country. He also worked in mortgage banking for many years and ended his working career with the U.S Postal Service, retiring in 2009.

Terry had a life-long love of sports. As a kid, he coordinated sandlot baseball games for the neighborhood. He was the captain of his UWM Panthers baseball team. Until 2016, he competed and received medals in numerous senior sporting events including the Badger State Games, National Veterans Golden Age Games, Senior Olympics, and USA Track and Field meets. He is a member of the Racine Senior Athletics Club and the Kenosha Senior Center’s ping pong club. He was player/manager of his 2017 Greater Milwaukee Senior Softball League 65+ championship team.

He was an honorable, ethical and spiritual man. His interests included reading and studying military and diplomatic history; he served as the coordinator, with his wife, for the FPA Great Decisions Program with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Adventures in Lifelong Learning. He had membership and gave support to Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Army Historical Foundation, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Friends of Kenosha Public Museums, and Kenosha County Historical Society. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a new member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Terry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and teammate. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Therese Constant; his daughters, Kristan (James) Grote, Michelle Constant, and Abigail (Michael) Karch; his brother John (Nancy) Constant; his sister Barbara (James) De Waal; his grandchildren, Bernard, Charles and Margaret Klein, Dane Grote, Ella and Casey Karch; and great-grandson, Jackson Grote.

He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Thomas (Deborah), Joseph (Kathleen), Paul, Mark (Shannon), and Philip (Heidi) Sturycz; his sisters-in-law, Joan Sturycz, Barbara (Edward) Janusiak, Helen (Daniel) Henderson, Mary (Louis) Giacomin, Alicia Simpson and Linda Sturycz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Marie (Conklin) Sturycz; and his brothers-in-law, Stephen Sturycz and John Simpson.

Funeral Services honoring Captain Terrence’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4816 7th Avenue, Kenosha, Wis. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery.
